Costume & Nude Card Collection Additions

Some of my most FAVORITE things to collect are costumes & Nude Playing Cards. Part of it may be in my upbringing. I live in a highly conservative state, so the female form was something that I didn't see being appreciated as it should be.  My fascination with the female body has now become a collecting obsession!
I have always been fascinated with Burlesque, mainly from past eras. The handmade costumes and elaborate beading always caught my attention.  I don't have a huge collection of showgirl or burlesque costumes, but what I do have, I make count. Below is one I just ordered as an early birthday present and OH MY  am I excited 😊

This bra below is not perfect, but no less beautiful.  The expertly place rhinestones tell a story that leaves mystery and tease... the point of burlesque. This piece is obviously not wearable, but I like to think of it as more of an art piece.

My collection of Nude Playing Cards started when I began buying are from YouWereSwell now DreamingofJohnny on Etsy.  First off, her art & illustrations are FUCKING AMAZING, but the little gifts & add-ons are the perfect touch.  Every order I received would come with some Nude Cards and I became hooked! Now I have numerous decks & single cards all though out my closet.

My boyfriend and I were travelling though South Dakota and found a lard stack of these cards in this little country antique store.  I brought them up to the counter where this big, burly man and some customers were hanging out. The guy ringing me up laughed and asked me if they were a gift for "my man" to which my boyfriend blushed. I said, "No, they're for me. I love nude women". The guy stared at me while the female customers laughed. Midwest living ladies & gentlemen.
Anyways, the mini deck below was too adorable to pass up, even for $25. The cards are about the size of a silver dollar, if not a bit smaller.

Wear Whatever the Hell You Want

I don't know about you, but I feel like everyday should be a day to dress-up, wear weird things, or just be a different style version of yourself. My style is not fluid by any means.  I wear what I want and there's usually never any rhyme or reason.  I go through spurts where I will wear nothing but Black for weeks on end, or I'll wear the most ostentatious vintage blouse or dress. Weird looks and stares are usually waiting outside the door, but as Mae West said, "It's better to be looked over than over-looked". Or at least, that's my motto. Lately, I've decided that if I want to wear a 1950's bathing suit out and about, I'm going to. I don't live near any lakes or pools, but it's nice to pretend like you do :) 1950's Bathing Suit w/ a 1960's Bed Jacket I'm quite a big fan of Vintage Bed Jackets and it's one of the many things I hoard (collect).  I found this GORGEOUS & PRISTINE Deadstock Bed Jacket from "

What's Behind the Elusiveness of "Plus Size Vintage"?

My main goal when opening my business,  Carmine & Hayworth , was to open the arena of vintage fashion to EVERYONE! Especially those who didn't think vintage was made for their body type (that used to be me). When I started collecting vintage clothing I would collect dresses/ pieces that I WISHED I could fit into because I didn't think vintage pieces existed for someone like me who doesn't have a tiny waist or hips. It wasn't until I really started doing my research that I found a whole new world, of what I like to call, "Size Inclusive Vintage". Living in North Dakota, the world of vintage, especially vintage fashion, could be scarce. I had to SCOUR Etsy, Ebay and wherever I could outside of the state to find these elusive pieces. Once I taught myself how to track these pieces down, I was not only HOOKED, but I felt that I had a whole new appreciation for these clothes. 1950's Knit, Moss Green, Wiggle Dress by "Snyderknit of California Sports

The One Phrase That Makes Me Cringe & How We Can Change It...

"I love vintage clothing, but I don't know when I'd wear it" Whenever someone makes that comment to me, my heart breaks a little.  The answer is that you can ALWAYS find a time & place to wear vintage!  The key is to have CONFIDENCE when you wear something outside of your comfort zone! Even if you're not confident, FAKE IT! Pretend you're playing a role until that confidence becomes the truth! I grew up wearing things, not necessarily vintage, that always caused people to talk, sneer or poke fun at me.  That's was people do when they don't understand you or, let's face it, life in general. Well guess what? That's NOT your problem! If they don't like it, great! They don't have to wear it! That leaves more amazing clothing for you!
